What a Protocol is....

A protocol is a set of rules. Now there are real life protocols and internet and web protocols.

Within the online realm of protocols, protocols are rules that are in place dictate how information is transferred over the web. The most common form/traditional form of this would be HTTP, which is Hyper Text Transfer Protocol. It's how the data is transferred from web page to web page. How the data is moved with ease. A protocol are rules that must be followed even if they're not quite necessary. The protocol are the building blocks that enable online data to move through the web. The protocols make sure that online are safe and secure without being exposed to potential threats, such as HTTPS. Also, when data is transferred protocols also help interpret how the data is going to be understood by the receiver. For example, when we send emails to other people, when we click send our outgoing email goes to the server and then from there protocols are used to receive your email on the other persons side. This is an exact copy of what happens with normal mail. We send mail through letter; the mail man comes gets it. The mail reaches the post office, which in this case would be our virtual server which houses incoming mail. From the post office a mail man then sends out our mail to the recipient. So, Protocols are a set of rules which help us transfer data to servers which then enables others to receive it from the main server.
